Abstract
Residual stress and birefringence in injection molded parts have an effects on dimensional accuracy and mechanical property of final products. Many researches about these problems have been reported for decades. The use of conventional straight cooling channel is a general method of controlling mold temperature. However, the conventional cooling channel locally generates non-uniform temperature distribution on the mold surface during molding cycle. Therefore the conventional cooling channel is not suitable for reducing residual stress and birefringence for the products with complex geometry. An efficient cooling system to minimize undesired defects has to be considered in injection molding of optical product.
