Abstract
An admission control scheme for the VBR motion pictures expert group (MPEG) video in the video on demand (VOD) system over asynchronous transfer mode (ATM)-over-digital subscriber lines (DSL) networks was presented. ATM-over-xDSL is capable of providing ATM-to-the home with sufficient downstream bandwidth to allow real time MPEG-based video services. An MPEG video data is stored on a disk as a consecutive number of video packets. The video pump converts the video stream into the video packets and transmits them into the network interface.
