Abstract

The aeroelastic response and the active control of 2 and 3 DOF airfoils exposed to time-dependent external excitations in a subsonic compressible flow field are addressed. The unsteady aerodynamic loads in subsonic compressible flow are represented in state-space form. This representation coupled with that of structural equations yields the complete set of state-space equations. The aeroelastic response of 2 and 3 DOF airfoils impacted by explosive and sonic boom pulses is analyzed, and by including a velocity feedback control law, both the subcritical response and the flutter instability are enhanced, in the sense of the alleviation of the severity of oscillatory response in the subcritical speed range and of the expansion of the flight envelope via the increase of the flutter speed.
