Abstract

The purpose of this study is establishing proper NDE (Nondestructive Evaluation) method for detecting deteriorations on wooden members of ancient buildings in field. Ultrasonic test which have been known to be the adequate method for NDE of wood was used for detecting deteriorations on columns of the Hyanggyo (local school annexed to the Confucian shrine) in Korea. For quantitative detection, CT (Computed Tomography) images were reconstructed with results of ultrasonic test, and specific gravity distributions of the cross-section based on DRT (Drilling Resistance Test) results were composed. As a result of this study, CT images were possibly reconstructed for all columns including buried columns by walls. And the inner state of column was well predicted with using these CT images.
