Abstract
Recently, RFID has gained a lot of attention as a technology that facilitates ubiquitous computing. Nevertheless, it still requires improvement in some areas, particularly in its application development. In this chapter, we present ideas for new RFID applications in automotive fields. With these innovative ideas, we can generate new kinds of applications and services, instead of focusing on conventional item tracking applications. We then propose an architecture for integrating the RFID system into current automotive architectures. Finally, in order to show the feasibility of our ideas, we present our prototyped system and demonstrate how our ideas can be successfully implemented.
