Abstract
Citations are the collection of bibliographic information, which play an important role in several scientific publication digital libraries (DLs). Distinct documents can be referred with the aid of citation, and if citation is not present, many users can refer to the same document. The bibliographic information in this citation includes author's name, article title, publication venue, and the year of publishing, pertinent to a particular article. Citations are used to find information of interest in Digital Libraries and researchers depend on citations to determine the impact of a particular article in a digital library. Citations of stored documents in DLs must be consistent and nontrivial, which faces problems such as data entry errors, citation formats, lack of (enforcement of) standards, imperfect citation gathering software, common author names or abbreviations of publication venue, and large scale citation data.
