Comparison of CNT grease and graphene grease for cooling performance enhancement of LED

Abstract

LED(Light Emitting Diode) is considered as the next generation light source and its market has been growing. However, the increased temperature of LED is a cause of failure and the reduction of life time, which is called the LED hot spot problem. To solve this problem, many people have researched on the enhancement of LED cooling performance. TIM(Thermal Interface Material) is used for enhancement of LED cooling performance. If TIM is applied to the LED package, the thermal contact resistance is reduced and the heat transfer area is increased. In this study, nano grease is developed to enhance the cooling performance of LED. The results show that the thermal conductivities of CNT grease and graphene grease are enhanced 16% and 6% for 0.75 wt%, respectively. It is found that the cooling performance of HPLED with CNT grease and graphene grease enhance up to 22% and 16%, respectively.
