Abstract

The mechanism of disintegration of a free thin liquid film accelerated by a gas pressure difference is theoretically investigated. This situation arises when a pressure wave impinges on a liquid film, when an annular layer of liquid rapidly expands under the influence of internal gas pressure in the cavity and, finally, in connection with the blow molding of polymer film. The mechanism of growth of the film perturbations under the influence of the ambient-gas pressure difference is analyzed. Only the linear stage of the film disintegration process is taken into consideration.
