Abstract

In this study, a series of piezocone and dilatometer tests are performed on a cemented specimen prepared in a large calibration chamber in order to investigate how the cementation effect is reflected in the cone tip resistance (q c) and the DMT indices (M D, K D). Although the qc value and DMT indices increase with the cementation level, ED is found to be more sensitive to the cementation than K D and q c. It is observed that the cementation of sand appears to have a more significant effect on the behavior of cemented sand at a lower stress level and its effect diminishes with an increasing stress level. It is also shown that the E D/q c ratio of cemented sand is always higher than that of uncemented sand at the same qc, while the difference in the E D/q c ratio between cemented and uncemented sands decreases with an increase in q c. The E D/q c-q c relation suggested in this study can be used to verify that the soil sediment is cemented.
