Abstract

We have investigated electro-optic properties of nonlinear optical polymer with self-crosslinkable groups in the side chain, which we synthesized previously. The system includes crosslinkable epoxy-functionalized copolymer with Tg around 120°C, second harmonic coefficient as high as 45.5 pm/V at 632 nm, and with good temporal stability of the poling-induced chromophore orientation obtained by self-crosslinking reactions in the polymer matrix during the poling process. Successful strategies for simultaneous poling and self-crosslinking during the poling without addition of crosslinking agents are presented. Significant improvement in the temporal stability of chromophore orientation was accomplished up to 90%.
