Enzyme loaded alginate hollow fiber for reactor

Abstract

In this paper, we present the fabrication of an enzyme loaded alginate hollow fiber synthesize using a polydimethelysiloxane (PDMS)-based microfluidic chip. This is a novel bio-catalytic micro-chemical reactor. Vanadium containing bromoperoxidase (VBPO) enzyme isolated from Corallina Confusa was used as model enzyme to perform bromo-oxidation of phenol red to bromophenol blue at different flow rates in synthesized alginate hollow fiber. We have shown an easy approach to fabricate a microfluidic bio-catalytic reactor. We have also demonstrated about 5.8 time faster reaction kinetic with this kind of microfluidic bio-reactor.
