Experimental analysis on the performance characteristics of an ejector designed for refrigerators

Abstract

The performance characteristics of an ejector were investigated by applying it to the conventional refrigerator. In order to analyze the performance of the ejector, the experimental setup was designed. Additionally, the two nozzles were designed with different α values. The entrainment ratio and pressure lifting ratio were analyzed according to the primary pressure, suction pressure, nozzle, and mixing section. The experimental result showed that the entrainment ratio increased with the increase of the suction pressure. As the entrainment ratio increased, the pressure lifting ratio decreased. The nozzle efficiency increased as the nozzle outlet diameter decreased. Consequently, the improved nozzle efficiency yielded the increase in the pressure lifting ratio. This result showed that the optimal nozzle design existed for the specific entrainment and pressure lifting ratio.
