Experimental study on condensation heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of R-1233zd(E) in shell and plate heat exchanger

Abstract

Since the environmental issue of refrigerants has been addressed, various regulations have been put in place regarding the safety and environmental issues of refrigerants. As a result, the use of refrigerants with high ODP(Ozone Depletion Potential) and GWP(Global Warming Potential) such as CFC(Chloro Fluoro Carbon), HCFC(Hydro Chloro Fluoro Carbon), and HFC(Hydro Fluoro Carbon) was prohibited, requiring new refrigerants to replace conventional refrigerants. R-1233zd(E) has a low GWP(1-7) and shows similar thermal properties to R-123 and R-245fa. Thus, R-1233zd(E) is expected to replace existing refrigerants in various applications such as high temperature heat pumps or low temperature chillers. In this study, experiments on condensation heat transfer and frictional pressure drop characteristics of R-1233zd(E) in Shell and Plate Heat Exchanger(SPHE) are carried out.
