Fingerprint verification system with improved image enhancement and reliable matching

Abstract

This paper deals with the fingerprint verification system(FVS), which consists of extracting and matching of minutiae from the input image. We present an improved fingerprint enhancement algorithm, which can improve the clarity of ridge and valley structure. We also propose a fast and reliable minutiae matching algorithm, capable of finding the correspondences between minutiae in the input image and the stored template without a exhaustive search. A standalone FVS system is implemented with ADSP21060, FPGA, memory and live-scan input device.
