Abstract

A boat-shaped 1,4-cyclohexadiene-like ring is present in the C₆₀ molecule with a novel σ-type μ3-η¹,η²,η¹ bonding mode in the clusters 2a and 2b. The change in coordination mode was induced by insertion of an RNC ligand into an Os-Os bond of the π-type C₆₀ complex 1.R = CH₂C₆H₅.
