Abstract

Gain control in an erbium-doped fibre amplifier (EDFA) using two fibre Bragg gratings and a fibre-stretcher is demonstrated. Various stabilised gain levels can be achieved by tuning the centre wavelength of a grating, which changes the optical cavity loss of the EDFA in lasing.
