Highly Efficient Fullerene-Free Polymer Solar Cells Fabricated with Polythiophene Derivative

Abstract

Researchers demonstrated highly efficient fullerene-free polymer solar cells fabricated with polythiophene (PT) derivative. They demonstrated a new alkoxycarbonyl-functionalized PT derivative, poly[(4,4'-bis(2-butyloctoxycarbonyl-[2,2'-bithiophene]-5,5-diyl)-alt-(2,2'-bithiophene-5,5'-diyl)] (PDCBT). The morphological studies by atomic force microscopy (AFM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and grazing incident wide-angle X-ray scattering (GIWAXS) exhibited that these two polymers had distinctly different aggregation structures in neat films and also in blend films with ITIC.
