Abstract

This paper investigated the nonlinear elastic behavior of pin-ended shallow parabolic arches. The static perturbation method is used to solve the nonlinear equilibrium equation for the shallow arches. From the results, the limiting dimensionless rise which classifies the buckling mode and the load-displacement relationship of the pin-ended shallow parabolic arches are proposed. The results are compared to those of the finite element method. It is found that the proposed solution provides a good prediction of the buckling behavior of pin-ended shallow parabolic arches.
