Abstract
In an effort to achieve large magnetostriction at a low applied magnetic field, magnetic properties of melt-spun ribbons of DyFe2 are studied as functions of quench rate during melt-spinning and the B content in the alloy. Magnetic properties are measured at room temperature using a vibrating sample magnetometer at applied magnetic fields up to 15 kOe. The microstructure is characterized by X-ray diffraction and by transmission electron microscopy.
