Abstract

The discovery of extraordinary enhancement in optical transmission efficiency through periodic subwavelength hole arrays in optically thick metal films has attracted considerable interest. As such, a detailed wavelength dependence of the nanoscopic emission patterns of such periodic hole arrays is described. It is found that a strong wavelength dependence that gives direct evidence for multiple scattering and interference of surface plasmons locally excited through these nanoholes.
