Abstract
An analytic study on a parametric control of solitons using a cw beam is presented by varying the amplitude and the frequency of cw beam. An analytic method of solving the nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equation using a `matrix potential' is developed and exact solution of solitons in cw background is derived. The velocity of soliton is obtained explicitly in terms of the soliton and the cw parameters and the parametric control of the velocity is explained in detail. In particular, when the amplitude and frequency of cw saturate critical conditions, strong cw stops soliton thereby rendering soliton a standing, oscillating soliton.
