Partial norm based search algorithm for fast motion estimation

Abstract

A fast block motion algorithm which uses the sum of partial norms is presented to obtain the same motion vectors as the exhaustive full search algorithm but with a reduced computational load. Results show that the proposed algorithm is approximately 3-4 times faster than the original exhaustive full search method. It is shown that it is twice as fast as the successive elimination algorithm.
