Performance of a Prototype CsI Detector for the Low-Energy LAMPS System by Using Diferent Gamma-Ray Sources

Abstract

A Large-Acceptance Multipurpose Spectrometer (LAMPS) will be essential for studying nuclear symmetry energy at the rare isotope beam facility, RAON, in Korea. According to the conceptual design of the LAMPS, a Si-CsI detector system will be used for identifying the charged particles produced in nuclear collisions. The CsI detector will be used particularly for the measurement of photons. In this work, the prototype CsI detector was tested using radioactive gamma sources, and the simulations using the GEANT4 simulation toolkit were performed. The energy resolutions estimated from the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the energy spectra were found to be 8.4 and 7.9%, respectively, for the 1.17- and the 1.33-MeV gamma-rays from the 60Co source and 12.3% for the 0.662-MeV gamma-ray for the from the 137Cs source.
