Performance of pilot-assisted channel estimation for OFDM system under time-varying multi-path Rayleigh fading with frequency offset compensation

This paper discusses the effect of frequency offset on the performance of pilot-assisted channel estimation for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system under a time-varying multi-path fading channel. The current analysis focuses on the performance limit of a pilot-assisted channel estimation scheme subject to compensation error of the frequency offset, in which the minimum mean-square error (MMSE) channel estimator is employed to exploit both time- and frequency-domain correlation. Specifically, an effect of the pilot symbol arrangement on the BER performance has been investigated to understand how its configuration can be characterized under the frequency offset compensation error.
