Abstract
The rate control of decolorization of photochromic chalcone containing polymer with spiropyran dye was achieved successfully by virtue of [2π+2π] photo-cycloaddition between the chalcone units. The kinetic measurement was conducted to prove the photostability of the merocyanine chromophore that is colored species of spiropyran. The chalcone-epoxy polymer system that contains chalcone group in the repeating unit was proved to retard the decaying behavior of photochromism most effectively resulting from the steric hindrance after UV irradiation.
