Abstract
We propose and demonstrate polarization-controlled, single-mode photonic-crystal vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (PC-VCSELs) by introducing rectangular air holes in the top mirror. The effect of the noncircular air holes on the polarization discrimination is experimentally observed.
