### Abstract

The crystal structure and piezoelectric properties of (1-x)Pb(Zr<inf>1-y</inf>Ti<inf>y</inf>)O<inf>3</inf>-xPb(Zn<inf>0.4</inf>Ni<inf>0.6</inf>)<inf>1/3</inf>Nb<inf>2/3</inf>O<inf>3</inf> [(1-x)PZ<inf>1-y</inf>T<inf>y</inf>-xPZNN] ceramics were investigated. The 0.665PZ<inf>0.45</inf>T<inf>0.55</inf>-0.335PZNN ceramic has the triple point composition, where the rhombohedral, pseudocubic, and tetragonal structures coexist. Maximum d<inf>33</inf> and k<inf>p</inf> values of 770 pC/N and 0.69, respectively, were observed from this specimen; it also exhibited a large εT<inf>33</inf>/ε<inf>o</inf> value of 3250. Although the maximum d<inf>33</inf> value was obtained from the triple point composition specimen, its g<inf>33</inf> and d<inf>33</inf> × g<inf>33</inf> values were relatively small because of its large εT<inf>33</inf>/ε<inf>o</inf> value. However, the 0.665PZ<inf>0.46</inf>T<inf>0.54</inf>-0.335PZNN ceramic, which has a rhombohedral structure, exhibited a large g<inf>33</inf> value of 43 × 10-3 Vm/N and a d<inf>33</inf> × g<inf>33</inf> value of 27 000 × 10-15m2/N. Therefore, this ceramic is a good candidate for multilayer actuators and piezoelectric energy harvesters.
