Surface- and bulk-type catalysts of heteropolymolybdates

Abstract

In this work, an attempt has been made to elucidate the relationships between the catalytic activity and the redox properties as well as the acidity of catalysts for both bulk- and surface-type reactions, and compare the differences between the two types of catalysis. A good correlation was found between the rate of decomposition of acetic acid (a main side reaction of acetadelhyde oxidation) and the acidity of catalyst. Therefore, the increase of the oxidizing ability and the decrease of the acidity of catalyst (PMo10V2 and PMo11V) resulted in significant improvement of the catalytic performance.
