The effect of Zn-Ni-ferrite catalyst for HTS under LNG reformate condition

Abstract

Hydrogen as source of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFC) can be produced by taking the steam reforming of hydrocarbons, e.g., natural gas and LPG. In the steam reforming process, CO is generated which has to be removed < 50 ppm because it damages the Pt electrodes of the PEMFC. The Water Gas Shift Reaction (WGSR) is one of the CO reducing processes. The Ni-ferrite catalyst was promoted by adding Zn to restrain methanation and increase WGSR activity. Ni-ferrite catalyst showed an effective WGSR performance at 400°C, which is similar with the activity of the commercial catalyst. However, a significant quantity of CH 4 was produced. The WGSR activities of the catalysts were investigated under the LNG reformate condition. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 2011 AIChE Annual Meeting (Minneapolis, MN 10/16-21/2011).
