The nanomechanical response of protein behavior via direct electrical signals using piezoelectric microcantilevers

Abstract

Detection tools that measure the dynamics of protein folding, conformational stability, and specific interactions are essential in understanding biological functions of proteins. So far, analysis was mainly done by nuclear magnetic resonance spec-troscopy and neutron scattering as well as molecular dynamic simulations and a real time electrical measurement system that can be used for quantitative analysis has not yet been demonstrated. Here, we proposed a fundamental tool to be used for analyzing protein dynamics, via a real time electrical signal from piezoelectric microcantilever, in the case of protein-water and protein-temperature interactions.
