A novel design of a diode-pumped unidirectional Nd:YAG laser with a planar semi-monolithic ring cavity was demonstrated at 1064 nm. Unidirectional operation in the cavity using the optical components of a laser medium with an applied magnetic field, a crystal quartz plate, and an output coupling mirror as the three essential parts of an optical diode was achieved. An output power of approximately 155 mW at 1.2-W pump power was achieved, and above threshold, the slope efficiency was approximately 17%.
